Shame it was a bank holiday or would have gone to Saunton but didnt wanna sit in traffic on the m5.So decided on an evenining session at wsm.I got there at 5.30pm a bit early really but after no sail for 5 weeks was keen to get out.
Olly a local turned up & chated for a while, the water was miles out but it was gusting over 30 knts, so plenty of wind but not much water.I rigged a 5.0m altough it was more 4.5m weather as i decided to try & walk/trek out(wsm seems to have alot more sand & less mud these days) & i didnt wanna be underpowered.John arrived as i was gonna walk, so with kit on head i started walking.I managed to get a long way out with firm sand under foot, but this far out i could see areas of mud which was off putting & i ended up on this plateau of sand with mud to either side & infront with the water about another 100ft away.By now all i could think about was Chinese cockle pickers & i didnt fancy getting stuck in da mud.So i sat down & waited for the water.I waited about 30 mins & then the water came rushing by, at about jogging pace. But i walked back abit with there fear of sinking in my mind , John & olly were now treking out.By the time they reached me it deep enough to launch at last.
The wind was still up & the 1st run out was ace loads of power & 76lt board flying, the 4.5m would have been fine john was stacked on his 4.7m & 74lt Evo.Being on the water with tide so far out the water was nice & flat with waist to chest high was everywhere. The water was still hundreds of mts away from the end of the pier, but these were some the nicest conditions ive seen at wsm, super smooth with excellent ramps everywhere & as the tide pushed in the waves got bigger, this was deffinately worth the trek out.
I went for a few backloops & later tried a few forwards, but they were crap efforts,John evening saying 'what the hell was that?'
After 2 excellent hours of sailing we called it a day,
